Mildred Frederick Obituary

Mildred Mae Hall Frederick was a giving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She peacefully transitioned to her eternal rest on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the age of 91.
Mildred entered this world on July 10, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Frank Hall, Sr. and Sallie Davis Hall and was the second eldest of eight children. She graduated from North High School in Youngstown and went on to pursue higher education, earning a Bachelors’ Degree at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC in 1951. While there, she was initiated into Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1948. In 2009 she became a Charter Member of Psi Lambda Omega Chapter in Brooklyn where she later became a Golden Member, Life Member, and Pearl Member of the sorority. She was an active member in her chapter and will be greatly missed by her sorority sisters.

Mildred settled in Brooklyn, New York where she met her husband Alvin A. Frederick, a native of St. Vincent, West Indies. Together they had three children and were married 49 years at the time of Alvin’s untimely death in 2002. She had a full career as a New York State pre-school teacher and really loved educating children at that impressionable age. Mildred enjoyed travelling, the theater, and most especially dancing. While always on the go, she never met a stranger.

Mildred resided in Brooklyn until she relocated to Maryland to live with her daughter in 2018. She was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, faithfully serving in various capacities for many years. She was under watch care at Oakland Baptist Church, Alexandria, VA. Mildred was preceded in death by sisters Elenora J. Murray, Anne D. Robinson, Ruby L. Hill, and brother Frank M. Hall, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters Denise G. Frederick (Lexington, KY), Cynthia F. Whittenburg (and Steven of Upper Marlboro, MD); son Carlton D. Frederick (Youngstown); grandchildren Amanda H. Whittenburg and Khalif Frederick; special niece Phyllis J. Cross; sisters Eugenia H. Tillman and Olivia B. Taylor (N. Las Vegas, NV) and Luvenia M. Sanders (Youngstown); and host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
