Michaline (Lee) Salamack , age 102, passed away on Tuesday , April 21st, from the corona virus, at the Cold Spring Hills Nursing Home, at 5 PM. Previously, she lived at her Farmingdale residence for 66 years, until she had a severe subdural hematoma in 2014, that required her to live at the nursing home.
She was born on October 27, 1917, in Astoria, Queens, to Mary Gierczak and Frank Sosulski. Michaline was pre-deceased by her first husband, Frank Szwejkowski , second husband, Edward Salamack, her late daughter, Eileen Rei, sisters Millie, Zofia, and brother Stanley. Loving Mother of her only son, Thomas Szwejkowski (Mary Ellen), Cherished Grandmother of Jason, Justin, James, Jenna, and Christine. Also survived by five great-grandchildren, Keira,Tyler, Danielle, Brooke, and Serena. Loving Aunt to Mary Ann, Billy, Janet, Stanley, Richard, June, Peggy, and Robert.
Michaline was a member of the St. Ladislaus Polish Church of Hempstead, NY and at the St. James Church of Seaford, NY. She had various jobs at Macy’s and at St. James Funeral Home. She was a woman of many talents, for years she was a hairdresser, loved to oil paint, had a vegetable garden in her yard, doing crossword puzzles, and knitting. She then worked for 20 years at a publishing company, Doubleday Inc.,and retired in 1979. She will be sorely missed by her loving , extended family and friends.
There will be a blessing of her casket by Monsignor Tom Costa, at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home in Farmingdale on Friday , April 24th, at 12 noon. Burial to follow at the Long Island National Cemetery, where she will be buried with her first husband, Frank Szwejkowski. There will be a celebration of Michaline’s life Memorial in the future.
