Weiss, Mary, 90, of Farmingdale, passed away on December 11, 2021. Reunited in heaven with her beloved late husband of 59 years, Don. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. Loving mother of Jerry (Kathy), Kate, Bill, and MaryBeth Thomas (Steve), and deceased infants Mary Elizabeth and John David. Cherished grandmother of Erin Tornambe (Mike), Kerrilyn Blee (Andy), Megan Martini (Anthony), Brianne Weiss; Jonathan (Kristin), Julia and Daniel Weiss; Ava and Logan Eastman, and great-grandmother of Luca and Stella Tornambe; Madison and Natalie Blee; Maximus Martini; and Edmond, Philip, Avila, Lydia, and George Weiss. Cherished sister of her deceased siblings: James, John, Joan, Rita and Joseph. Beloved sister-in-law, survived by Marilyn and Ray Walther and Jackie Garry.
Mary regularly attended daily and weekly masses. She was a lector and Eucharistic Minister since 1982, and brought communion to the homebound and those in nursing homes. Mary and Don started the weekly Charismatic Prayer Meeting in their home in the 70s. Mary loved to pray. Her faith in Jesus, gave her a thankful heart regardless of circumstances that came her way. For over a decade, through St. Kilian RC Church of Farmingdale, Mary and Don ran the annual Seder Feast in the cafeteria. She was also a member of the St. Kilian’s Women’s Guild.
Devoted to her Catholic faith, Mary lived a life of service to others. A long-time case worker with the St. Vincent De Paul Society, even into her 80s, she enjoyed ministering to families in need throughout Long Island.
In the 70s Mary and Don, opened their home and hearts to members of the Cao family, refugees from Vietnam. In the 80s, they warmly welcomed into the family Abraham and Abdu from Eritrea. In the early 2000’s, Mary and Don kindly welcomed the Gashi family, refugees from Kosovo into their home.
Mary loved to dance, sing and was often the life of the party. Her family and friends appreciated Mary’s love, positivity, faith, sense of humor and quick wit. She enjoyed attending the St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations at St. Kilian’s. Time was never a concern when Mary was connecting with and caring for her many friends.
Mary’s strength and love for her husband Don shone through as she cared for Don during the last six years of his life (2005-2011). Mary would never complain and was lovingly devoted to Don’s care for six years.
