Margaret Sanfilippo Obituary

SANFILIPPO, Margherite. Margaret, 99, of Bethpage passed at her home on June 2, 2022. Born in Farmingdale on a small farm in 1923, her family moved to Brooklyn when she was 10. There she met the love of her life, Giacomo Jack Sanfilippo, who would later become her husband of 72 years. In 1950, the couple moved back to Long Island. They settled in Bethpage, where they hosted family from Brooklyn every weekend until they followed to Bethpage. Bethpage would remain the center of the family for the rest of their lives, but they did cherish a beautiful cottage on the Finger Lakes as their vacation spot. Eventually, when her children reached school age, Margaret joined her husband as an employee of Grumman Aerospace. She was so proud to have taken a small part in the making of the Lunar Excursion Module that landed on the moon. Moreover, her zest for living took them on many travels. She and Jack lived life to the fullest, taking up ballroom dancing and becoming original members of the Playboy Club NYC. After retiring, she and Jack split their time between the family cottage, Bethpage, and a home in Naples, Florida. It was in Florida Margaret found her passion for quilting. She became a prolific and expert quilter, continuing her passion well into her 90s. But first and foremost, came her family. She hosted parties and holidays, took in relatives who needed a place to stay and devoted herself unselfishly to her three children. Margaret is preceded by her husband, Jack; her parents, Joseph and Josephina Ficara; and her siblings: Al, Mary, Grace and Mickey. She will always be missed by her children Joseph, Michael, and RoseEllen; her son- and daughters-in-law James, Linda, and Nan; her grandchildren Aimee and Dominic Cuniglio, Christa and Felipe Perlaza, Michael and Edna Sanfilippo, Amanda and Justin Long, Ariana and Keith Doheny, and Jake and Marissa Rugino. She will also remain in the hearts of her great-grandchildren: Dominic and Annarose Cuniglio; Joseph, Emma, and Luke Perlaza; Mickey, Jack, and Dori Sanfilippo; Lillie Theresa Doheny; and Pearl Margherite Long. The family will receive visitors Monday, June 6th, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc., 234 Broadway, Bethpage. Funeral Mass Tuesday, June 7th, 10 am at St. Martin of Tours RC Church. Entombment following at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
