Purandare, Yeshwant, 84, born Pune, India. Passed away June 5, 2019. Came to the US in 1961 to pursue his academic dreams. He studied Chemistry and Physics and graduated from Fordham University. In 1963, met Margarita Renella Carrasco while they worked together in Bronx -Lebanon Hospital. They married in 1964 and moved to Walnut Ave in Farmingdale where they raised four children- Sarita, Amar, Jasmine and Ravi. Yeshwant started his longtime career at SUNY Farmingdale in November 1964 as a Chemistry Professor and later, Chemistry Department Chairman. He retired from full time in 1998 but continued to teach part time until 2015. During his career he never stopped working towards his academic goals. He continued to attend classes and attained his PhD and MD degrees. An avid traveler and photographer, Yeshwant would love to recall and tell stories of the countries he had visited and display his photos whenever he could. He would often say that his goal was to visit every country in the world. Yeshwant was an active member of the Farmingdale Rotary Club and with the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years. Presence in community and charity always were a main focus and held in deep regard. Memorial visitation Sunday, June 9, 2019, 4-7 pm, at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home Inc., 315 Conklin Street (Hempstead Turnpike), Farmingdale.
