Virginia Ann (Cowardin) Murphy

Murphy, Virginia Ann (nee Cowardin), 91, of Massapequa, NY on October 8, 2017. Beloved and respected music teacher and mentor, and organist and choir director at many houses of worship. Virginia also shared her creative talents and love of music through volunteer work. Predeceased by her loving husband Stephen and their daughter JoAnne. Survived by her loving children Stephen (Anne), Eileen Vanison (Richard) and Patrick (Stephanie). Devoted grandmother of Stephen Murphy III (Linda), Alexandria Murphy Green (Jason), Christopher, Laura and Megan Vanison, and Jessica, Dylan and Heather Murphy. Loving great grandmother of Brianna, Dominic, Gianna and Rylee Ann. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, October 11, 2017, 2-4 and 6-9 pm at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc., 315 Conklin Street, Farmingdale. Funeral Mass Thursday, October 12, 2017, 11 am at St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Massapequa. Interment following at Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Virginia’s (Maam’s) memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; www.stjude.org. Virginia’s true spirit, her faith, and love of family will forever be an inspiration.
