King, Douglas W., 72, of Bethpage, passed away December 1, 2018. Beloved husband of Arleen. Loving father of Judi Reggio (William), Kerri King-Micca (Ronald), James D. King and Callan M. Fleck (Gregory). Cherished grandfather of Taylor and Jenna. Devoted brother to Dianne Mazzeo, Linda Philips, Peggy Cook and Stephen King. Adored uncle to many nieces and nephews. He made so many people smile and laugh. Everywhere he went he had people cracking up. He is truly unforgettable. He gave every ounce of himself to anyone who needed it, but especially to his family. And then like wringing out an almost dry sponge, he would find even more to give. He was so strong and he took pride in that strength. In his youth he protected his siblings; and as he grew older he lived to provide for and protect his wife and children. "No one messes with Dougie King's family" he would say. Yet as tough as he was, he had the most gentile loving soul, and truly believed in the humane treatment of all creatures. He treated animals like royalty, they loved him just as much as he loved them. He loved nature and found such solace near the ocean. He served our country, he became a proud Nassau County Police officer, he was a craftsman (and a perfectionist at that), he was an artist, a caretaker, he was an amazing son, brother, uncle, grandfather, husband and an incredible father. We are trying desperately to find peace knowing that he is out of pain and knowing that we were all lucky enough to have him in our lives for as long as we did, it just doesn’t feel like it was long enough. We suppose it never would. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, December 4, 2018, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc., Bethpage. Funeral Mass Wednesday, December 5, 2018, 10 am at Our Lady of Mercy RC Church, Hicksville. Cremation Private. Entombment Wednesday, December 12, 2018, 2 pm at Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn.
